Border guards continue to detect evaders and smugglers: the situation at the border over the past 24 hours
Over the past day, August 20, 116 thousand people and 21 thousand vehicles crossed the western borders of Ukraine with the EU and Moldova. However, not all citizens comply with the rules of crossing the state border, violating them. Such persons are increasingly detected by border guards.
Among the offenders there are foreigners, in particular, recently a Polish citizen, following through the checkpoint “Smilnitsa”, tried to drive a Ukrainian into the car.
During the inspection of the Renault passenger car, the border guards of the Lviv detachment discovered a man hiding behind the front seats on the floor of the car and covered with a blanket. He turned out to be the driver's boyfriend, a 32-year-old citizen of Ukraine, who is subject to restrictions on leaving the country. It was because of this that the couple decided to cross the state border by resorting to tricks.
For an attempt to illegally cross the state border, a man will be brought to administrative responsibility. But in the actions of the woman there are signs of the crime provided for in Art. 332 of the Criminal Code “Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine”, about which a message was sent to the National Police.
21 persons were detained for attempting to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine — 5 of them tried to cross the border illegally at checkpoints, another 16 were detained outside designated crossing points.
Also during the weekend, border guards of the Chernivtsi detachment prevented two attempts to illegally move tobacco products into Romania.
During the implementation of the advance information, the operational officers of the detachment, together with the border department of the Krasnoilsk department, found cigarette caches near the border.
Ten boxes of tobacco were carefully hidden in the forest and prepared for further illegal movement across the Ukrainian-Romanian border. According to preliminary estimates, the value of the seized 5 thousand packs of cigarettes without excise tax stamps of Ukraine is more than 200 thousand hryvnias.
Otherwise, at the Porubne checkpoint, border guards and customs officers discovered hidden cigarettes from passengers of the Chernivtsi-Suceava route bus.
A citizen of Ukraine transported 460 packs of non-smoking tobacco worth more than 30 thousand hryvnias. Tobacco products are withdrawn in the prescribed manner.
