Border guard Yaroslav and his partner Gina at the state border guard
Service dogs have always been and are indispensable helpers and reliable companions for border guards both in peacetime and during war.
Today, dogs of different breeds help border guards to guard the border. Usually, in our view, four-legged guards are large dogs, like sheepdogs. And there are other breeds among the four-legged border guards: spaniel, fox terrier, yacht terrier, jack russell terrier, beagles, etc. Despite their small size, they are true specialists in detecting weapons, explosives, drugs and tobacco products.
Such a small and dexterous assistant was chosen by the border guard Yaroslav Zaitsev. His companion was the service dog Gina, a Jack Russell Terrier breed.
“I have been in cynology for more than 10 years and I can't imagine my service without a four-legged partner. For me, a service dog is not just a combat unit, it is primarily a reliable assistant, partner and friend, with whom border protection is much more effective,” the dog handler shared.
Jack Russell dogs are born hunters and excellent companions who have proven themselves well in the service of border guards. These small and clever partners have a responsible job — they help detect weapons, explosives and drugs.
And yet, they are very active, inquisitive and easily trainable. These companionable dogs need a lot of attention from the owner, so when choosing this breed, be prepared for an active lifestyle.
So, very soon, after completing her training, little companion Gina will replenish the ranks of four-legged guards and help border guards fight illegal activity on the border.
