Two million hryvnias profit per month: fraudulent call center exposed (VIDEO)
Law enforcement officers exposed a group of prisoners of the Vinnytsia correctional colony, who organized a fraudulent call center. The criminal organization includes not only current prisoners, but also those who have already served their sentences.
The attackers posed as bank security officers and appropriated the victims' funds. According to preliminary estimates of the investigation, the monthly income of fraudsters could amount to about two million hryvnias.
Cardholders were notified of allegedly dubious transactions with the account. And to “protect” their funds, they offered to transfer them through a mobile application from their card to a virtual account supposedly specially created for it.
In fact, the funds were transferred to the accounts of third parties, which were received by the defendants fraudulently or for remuneration.
To return the money to the victim's account, the attackers recommended to restart the mobile application of the bank, after which the funds were actually written off and the owners were not returned. It was found that in this way fraudsters searched 29 Ukrainians. Police are currently investigating other victims.
Members of a criminal group who were at large were detained. According to law enforcement officials, the daily “norm” of each “operator” could be 7-8 thousand hryvnias. Of these, 70% they gave to the organizers of the transaction, who are in prison.
The organizer of the fraudulent scheme served his previous sentence in the colony just a week ago.
Seven defendants were notified of suspicion of offenses provided for in Part 4 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Fraud committed on a particularly large scale by a criminal organization). At the same time, they were informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 255 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Participation in a criminal organization).
In addition, two so-called “authorities of the criminal environment” are documented among the defendants - they are incriminated by Part 2 of Art. 255-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Establishment or dissemination of criminal influence), as well as the “seer” - he faces punishment in accordance with Part 5 of Art. 255 and Part 4 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The attackers face up to 15 years in prison.
