The President of Ukraine presented the Order of the “Golden Star” to the families of the deceased National Guardsmen (VIDEO)
On the Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky honored the soldiers who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
“Every year on August 29, we honor the memory of Ukrainians and Ukrainians who gave their lives defending our country. Defending the independence of Ukraine, freedom for all our people. The integrity of Ukraine. The right of Ukraine to be among free nations,” the Head of State said.
The President, along with those present at the Wall of Remembrance on Mikhailovskaya Square in Kyiv, honored with a minute's silence the Ukrainian heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine awarded the Order of the Golden Star to members of the families of Ukrainian defenders who were awarded the title Hero of Ukraine posthumously. In particular, he presented state awards to members of the families of NGU lieutenant Vitaliy Koval and junior sergeant of NGU Yevhen Bilash.
During the inspection of the destroyed equipment, Vitaliy Koval captured the wounded occupier and handed him over to the Security Service of Ukraine. Lieutenant of the National Guard of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval also defended the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk region.
On January 6, 2023, during a breakout attempt, the enemy attacked our stronghold. As a result of the battle, the enemy forces were completely neutralized. After an unsuccessful assault, the enemy used mortars. One of the guards was seriously injured and required immediate medical attention. To save the life of the personnel, Vitaly Koval gave the order to move to the shelter, and he himself rushed to save the wounded. While transporting the wounded man to a shelter a few meters from the guards, a mine exploded. Lieutenant Vitaly Koval received a wound incompatible with life.
By the decree of the President of Ukraine, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously).
The junior sergeant of the NGU Yevgeny Bilash also defended Bakhmut. On February 2, 2023, around 11:00 the occupiers, supported by artillery fire, stormed the house, where at that time junior sergeant Yevgeny Bilash was performing a combat mission. In the fighting, he destroyed to the detachment of the occupiers. Two guards were wounded during the assault. Junior Sergeant Yevhen Bilash reached the wounded comrades and provided them with first aid — stopped the bleeding and helped the wounded fighters leave the shelling sector, evacuated them to a safe place and returned to the fighting position.
On February 9, 2023, Junior Sergeant Yevgeny Bilash, together with 3 other brothers, conducted reconnaissance. During the approach to the object, he detected two chattels. Realizing that opening fire would reveal their whereabouts, Yevgeny Bilash, together with a partner, used cold weapons and neutralized the enemy. After collecting the necessary data, the intelligence group returned to its positions, but was detected by the enemy. Yevgeny Bilash ordered his subordinates to leave, and he himself remained for their cover. He entered the battle, single-handedly holding back the enemy. But the enemy used grenades and from an explosive injury as a result of the rupture of one of them, junior sergeant Yevgeny Bilash, unfortunately, died.
