The event was attended by representatives of more than 30 countries - investigators from European, US, Canada and Australia, specializing in the investigation of major international crimes, as well as representatives of Eurojust and international non-governmental organizations.

The annual meeting of representatives of investigative units from different countries took place at the Europol Headquarters in the city. The Hague (Netherlands). Law enforcers who, in particular, specialize in investigations of crimes of genocide, against humanity and war crimes, arrived at the international meeting. The event is organized within the framework of the Europol Analytical Project on the Investigation of Major International Crimes.

The National Police of Ukraine at the international event was represented by First Deputy Chief of the Main Investigation Department Sergey Panteleev, First Deputy Head of the Department for Protection of Public and State Interests Oleksandr Shapovalov and Representative of the National Police of Ukraine in Europol Vitaliy Kasap.

Representatives of the Ukrainian delegation shared with foreign counterparts their experience on the investigation of war crimes, and also spoke about the initiative of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine to strengthen cooperation aimed at investigating war crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine. It was about ways to build in the EU security architecture a comprehensive international platform to support Ukraine in the investigation of war crimes for interested international partners in coordination with Europol.

In turn, foreign colleagues shared the results on information collection and evidence base of war crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine, in particular obtained from non-governmental organizations, witnesses and victims. All these facts are forwarded to Europol for further elaboration.

In addition, back in March last year, Europol created a single platform for the collection, storage, and analytical processing of information (operational data) on war crimes. In the event of a coincidence, the information will be used in national and international investigations, in particular those conducted by the International Criminal Court and under the jurisdiction of Eurojust.

“Currently, the National Police of Ukraine is actively cooperating with Europol on the exchange of relevant data, as well as using Europol's capabilities to identify Russian war criminals. After all, all law enforcement agencies of Ukraine are working to ensure that the occupiers answer for their crimes both in Ukrainian and international courts,” Serhiy Panteleev said.

Within the framework of the international event, representatives of the National Police of Ukraine held a number of meetings with law enforcement officers of the United States of America, Great Britain, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, etc. There was also a meeting with Jean-Philippe Lacouf, Deputy Executive Director of Europol for operational work. The parties discussed further steps of Ukraine's cooperation with Europol.
