The representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine took part in the work of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

Every year in March at the UN headquarters in New York, one of the important events in the field of protection and promotion of women's rights takes place — the meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women (KJF).

This year Olga Perunova, Deputy Head of the Human Rights Monitoring Department — Head of the Gender Equality Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, took part in the delegation of the Government of Ukraine to the 67th session of the Commission, in fact representing women from the entire security and defense sector of Ukraine in the government delegation.

The theme of the session was “Promoting inclusive innovation and technological change to empower women and girls and create safer digital spaces.” Today it is the largest UN Commission on the Status of Women in history — the event gathered about 8,000 participants from around the world and involves 180 official and 700 parallel events.

During the work of the Commission, the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine participated in a number of measures regarding:

- priority for Ukraine of the course on European integration and implementation of gender equality; - raising awareness of the new global standards of the social protection system;
- ensuring gender equality and conditions for using the potential of the UN in the context of the empowerment of women in public life; and
- elimination of violence against women in Ukrainian society.

Olga Perunova took part in official meetings with the Head of the Office of the US Secretary of State for Global Women Katrina Photovat and the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Czech Republic Clara Laurenchykova, in a session on combating sexual violence in Ukraine in the context of war, initiated by the Ukrainian Government, in Discussion of the state of implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace, Security” and Ukraine's recovery in the post-conflict period. She also participated in the round table on the topic “Report of Ukraine on the state of Ukrainian women, their peace and security 2022-2023”.

“In addition, the Commission held several events-screenings of the documentary film “Sexual Crimes of the Russian Army in Ukraine”. Presenting this film abroad was critically necessary, since it is through such documentaries that the world can see the true face of the aggressor.

Representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States were also present at these events, who for their part will do everything to make the whole world aware of Ukraine's pain,” Olga shared.

The outcome of the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women will be the conclusions agreed by all UN Member States.
