He returned to the ranks of the border guards, because he understood that it was his duty: rehabilitologist Vladimir
Volodymyr Woodmasku worked as a rehabilitologist at the regional center of neurosurgery of Uzhgorod. February 24 changed his life, like that of millions of Ukrainians.
On this day, the man went to work. But after learning about the full-scale invasion, I returned home, helped his wife and two young children to stock up on necessary products and went to the military registration office.
In 2004-2005, Vladimir served in the State Border Guard Service. And again returned to the ranks of the border guards.
“My colleagues from the hospital were not subpoenaed. But I made a decision, and I volunteered. At first there were anxious thoughts and concerns for the family. But at the same time, I knew it was my duty. Our unit was very well trained and coordinated, everyone knew what needed to be done,” says the border guard.
For about three months, the border guards, together with the Defense Forces, held the defense on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. After the expulsion of the enemy from these territories, we went to the Slavic direction.
Due to the constant attacks of the enemy, the evacuation group of border medics evacuated and provided assistance to the seriously wounded from the units of the Armed Forces by agreement. Under constant shelling, but without any fear, the team of medics, in which Vladimir was, saved the lives of about forty wounded.
“The most remembered case was when, during the evacuation, we gave cardiac resuscitation to an injured person four times. We overcame a distance of fifty kilometers in half an hour and delivered the fighter to the hospital of Kramatorsk. Unfortunately, already in the hospital, the life of the fighter was interrupted...”, — recalls the doctor with sadness.
Now Vladimir's unit has returned from the east to rotation. His wife Anna, relatives and friends met with sincere hugs of the border guard, and most of all his little sons, five-year-old Mikhailyk and two-year-old Ilya, were waiting for their father.
The border guard has no doubt that he will go to the front line again. After all, he knows that he is very much needed by his brothers there.
For personal courage and dedication, shown in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, impeccable service to the Ukrainian people, loyalty to the Military Oath by Decree of the President of Ukraine, senior soldier Vladimir Woodmusk was awarded the Medal “For Life Saved”.
