52,481 Ukrainians learned to drive trucks. The majority of people received category C driver's licenses — 39,661 persons, and 12,820 — category C1.

Such a demand for driving large cars is associated with the military actions in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, it was necessary to urgently transport fuel and lubricants, deliver food and other assistance to both Ukrainian civilians and the military. Volunteers and employers actively began to look for truck drivers, who were sorely lacking.

To solve the problem, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allowed drivers of passenger cars to switch to trucks. That is, persons who have a driver's license of category B can drive a vehicle of categories C, C1. This rule will apply during martial law.

The relevant decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia.

What do categories mean

B — vehicles whose maximum permitted weight does not exceed 3,500 kg, and the number of seats, other than the driver's seat, is 8;

C1 — designed for the transportation of goods, the maximum mass of the vehicle is from 3,500 to 7,500 kg;

C — vehicles designed for the transport of goods, the maximum permissible weight of which exceeds 7,500 kg.
