Transcarpathian police officers documented the fact of importation into Ukraine of expensive equipment in the amount of 2 million 447,000 dollars without payment of state duty. Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the checkpoint where the carrier crossed the border, and seized the documentation. Such actions caused the state losses of 17.4 million hryvnias.
On June 30, in the course of working out operational information, Transcarpathian police officers stopped the Mersedes Sprinter car, which just crossed the state border and entered the territory of Ukraine, outside the Luzhanka checkpoint in Berehove district. A 53-year-old man was driving.
Law enforcers determined that the car was besieged by the National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary. However, the driver did not have any documents confirming the registration and payment of customs duty in Ukraine.
The discovered cargo is estimated at 2 million 447 thousand dollars (more than 87 million hryvnias). As a result, such actions caused damage to the state in the amount of 17.4 million hryvnias.
The police seized all the uncleared goods and yesterday, July 6, the Berehovsk District Court arrested the specified property. In addition, the vehicle with which the transport was carried out was seized.
Together with the SBU officers, the police conducted a number of searches directly at the checkpoint through which the carrier with illegally imported goods came. Documents confirming that the car crossed the state border and other documentation that will be examined by experts have been seized.
According to this fact, under the procedural guidance of the Berehovsk District Prosecutor's Office, the police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 212 (Evasion of taxes, fees (mandatory payments) committed by a previous conspiracy by a group of persons, or if they led to the actual non-receipt of funds in large amounts to budgets or state appropriations funds) and part 3 of Art. 358 (Forgery of documents, seals, stamps and forms, sale or use of such counterfeits) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
