Police document mass burial in Borovskiy district in Kharkiv region
According to preliminary data, at least 17 people were buried in the grave - civilians and military personnel of the Armed Forces. Three bodies of servicemen were seized by investigators on the first day of work.
About the mass burial was reported by residents of the village of Kopanki. Residents told the investigation that the occupiers collected the bodies of the dead throughout the area. On April 13, they were brought in two trucks, a hole up to 3 meters deep was dug by an excavator and all the bodies were dumped there. Then the burial place was leveled with tanks.
“Preliminarily, we have data on at least 17 bodies of the dead. Locals say that our soldiers died in battle, and they were buried here. the Russians did not put any marks on the grave and did not let the peasants do it. It was only on Easter that people were allowed to come to the cemetery. People found three crosses, and in this way they marked the perimeter of the grave, removed the weeds. All recovered bodies will be sent for forensic examination to determine the causes of death,” said Dmitry Soima, deputy head of the investigative department of the GUNP in Kharkiv region.
Investigators opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine).
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of ten to fifteen years or life imprisonment.
