Police detained fraudsters who appropriated more than UAH 20 million under the guise of selling cars and quadrocopters for the needs of the Armed Forces
Internet attackers offered delivery of cars from abroad and sale of quadrocopters for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, having received a subscription for the “order”, the attackers disappeared. In this way, they appropriated the money of volunteers and soldiers.
The operatives of the Cyber Crime Unit in the Kyiv region, together with the employees of the Department of Strategic Investigations and the investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police, identified the members of the criminal group, including the organizer and three accomplices. The defendants used well-known trading platforms to place advertisements for the sale of passenger cars and quadrocopters for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at low prices. At the same time, mainly their clients were military and volunteers. However, fraudsters did not fulfill the “order” and did not get in touch.
In criminal proceedings, 22 searches were carried out on the territory of Odessa, Kharkiv, Khmelnytsky, Dnipropetrovsk and Cherkasy regions at the places of registration and residence of the defendants. Removed 43 mobile phones, SIM cards, 5 laptops, 87 bank cards and cash. According to preliminary information, fraudsters searched people for more than UAH 20 million.
Under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the organizer and three of his accomplices were notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to twelve years imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The issue of choosing preventive measures for defendants in the form of detention is resolved.
Law enforcement officers carry out operational and investigative actions to identify other persons involved in criminal activities, and check the involvement of those involved in other similar crimes.
