Transcarpathian police detained the head of a public organization that staged an attempt to assassinate him
In Uzhgorod, the police exposed the 38-year-old head of a local NGO who staged an assassination attempt. We are talking about an incident that happened on October 24 at one of the gas stations of the city. That day, the man reported to the police about the discovery of a grenade in the bottom of his car.
Explosive police officers who went to the scene examined the vehicle and defused the grenade. After that, investigators and operatives began priority measures to identify all the circumstances of the crime.
As a result, criminal police officers, together with employees of the Security Service of Ukraine, established that the applicant himself was involved in the incident. It is known that the night before, the defendant drove to one of the service stations in the Uzhgorod region, where he used a lifter and independently attached a grenade to his car. And the next day, arriving at the gas station, he informed the law enforcement officers about the alleged attempt on his life.
Law enforcement officers conducted urgent searches at the place of residence and in the vehicles of the attacker.
As a result, a whole arsenal of combat weapons was discovered in one of the cars. Namely, a Kalashnikov assault rifle with a silencer, a machine gun, more than 200 rounds of various calibers, grenades, and stores for a pistol; in another car - a PM pistol and a bayonet knife; in the house of the suspect, the police found a rifle with an under-barrel grenade launcher, a blade, machete, hand anti-tank grenade launcher sight and silencer.
All material evidence was seized by investigators. Operatives are now establishing the origin of this weapon.
The 38-year-old defendant was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention facility. He is incriminated by Part 1 of Art. 263 and Art. 383 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is, illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives and knowingly false reporting of the commission of a criminal offense.
The perpetrator confessed to what he did. He faces up to 7 years in prison. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
