Transcarpathian police detained a man who tried to buy an 11-month-old child from his mother and sell it for 25 thousand dollars to a family from Europe
Migration police officers in the Transcarpathian region received information that a 43-year-old Transcarpathian is looking for a mother with a child to buy a baby under 12 months old and take him abroad. The police, together with border guards and SBU investigators, checked this information and found that the attacker contacted a woman from Zhytomyr and offered 5 thousand US dollars for her 11-month-old baby. Then the attacker wanted to sell the child to a family from Europe for 25 thousand US dollars.
On Saturday, June 24, the man tried to cross the border with the child and her mother. The attacker could enter the territory of the Slovak Republic, as he was one of the members of a charitable organization. With the strong support of KORD fighters, he was detained on the territory of the checkpoint “Mali Selmentsy”. Money for such an illegal operation is seized as physical evidence.
Two residences of the person involved in the crime and his car “Dacia” were searched, from which records of such illegal activities, seals and receipts for transferring funds were seized.
According to this fact, under the procedural guidance of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office, criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 15 Part 3 of Article were initiated. 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is, an attempt at human trafficking committed against a minor has been completed. The offender is detained, he faces from eight to fifteen years in prison.
The police are currently establishing the involvement of other possible accomplices in the commission of the crime. In addition, law enforcement officers will check whether the attacker has carried out such illegal activities in the past. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
