Police of Kherson region reported suspicion of Russian guards who tortured Ukrainians
Investigators of the Department for the Investigation of Crimes Committed in the Conditions of Armed Conflict, of the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kherson Oblast under the procedural leadership of the Regional Prosecutor's Office reported the suspicion of the Russian Guards, who organized the torture in the premises of the temporary correctional facility retention.
Investigators found out that from March to October 2022, in the premises of ITT GUNP in the Kherson region, the soldiers of the aggressor country organized torture and illegally detained Ukrainian citizens in it and subjected them to torture.
During the investigation, law enforcement officers found that about 400 residents of Kherson and the region were held in torture chambers. Currently, investigators have questioned more than 200 citizens as victims.
Also during the investigation, the police identified the identities of nine Russian guards and two coloborants, former police officers, who are involved in the operation of the torture chamber.
It is known that the commander of the Rosguard unit took part in the capture of IT and the organization was tortured in it. Another 8 ordinary Russian guards were guarding, escorting detainees, participating in torture and torturing Ukrainians.
Two former police officers carried out searches, after which people were placed in IT. Among the kidnapped were mainly pro-Ukrainian activists, volunteers, veterans, relatives of law enforcement officers.
Now the organizer of the torture - the commander of the Russian Guard unit and three of his accomplices, has been informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28 “Committing a criminal offense by a group of persons, a group of persons by prior conspiracy, an organized group or a criminal organization”, part 1 of Art. 438 “Violation of the laws and customs of war” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is ongoing.
