Police reported suspicion of one of the deputy mayor and the official of the Dnieper City Council for damage to the state in 3 million UAH
The suspects squandered funds of the state program “New Ukrainian School”. They purchased furniture for educational institutions with losses of more than UAH 3 million. For the committed acts, the defendants may face from seven to twelve years in prison.
According to the investigation, officials of one of the departments of the city council and the society entered into an agreement for the purchase of school furniture for educational institutions. The procurement funds were allocated as subsidies from the budget within the framework of the implementation of the state program “New Ukrainian School”. Current legislation establishes clear requirements for furniture that can be used in the school process.
According to the results of the analysis of the documentation and the conducted studies, the discrepancy of the characteristics of furniture with the requirements of regulatory acts was established. Despite the fact that the officials knew in advance about their discrepancy, they still signed all the necessary documents, on the basis of which funds were transferred from the budget to the contractor. As a result of such actions, 3 million UAH of losses were caused to the state.
On the basis of the collected evidence, the deputy mayor — head of the Department of the Dnieper City Council and the deputy head of this department, the police reported the suspicion under Part 5 of Art. 191 (Appropriation, embezzlement of property or possession of it by abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
For one of the defendants, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest, in relation to the other, the proceedings are ongoing. Procedural guidance in criminal proceedings is carried out by the Right Bank District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Dnipro.
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years and with confiscation of property.
