Police officers exposed a group of fraudsters who deceived several dozen citizens out of half a million hryvnias
The operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department and the investigators of the CSU of the National Police exposed a group of fraudsters: the organizer and two executors. The attackers telephoned the selected victims and reported that their relative was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and therefore needed urgent surgery, for which funds were needed immediately.
In this way, fraudsters found 10 people. The total amount that the victims transferred “for the rescue” of their relatives is almost 300 thousand hryvnias. Among the victims are close relatives of a soldier of the Armed Forces.
In addition, it has already been established that this is not the only way for attackers to “earn money”. They also sold non-existent firewood. Thus, the defendants posted on the Internet, in particular on Facebook, ads about the sale of incendiary planers and wood. After receiving funds from selected victims, the “sellers” disappeared. The amount of damage is about 200 thousand hryvnias.
DCR operatives together with Ukrainian police officers of Dnipropetrovsk region conducted operational and search activities and established that three people were involved in the crime. In particular, the organizer of the crime has recently been released from prison. Two of his henchmen are currently serving sentences in a penal colony in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Criminal investigation officers, together with employees of the Southeast Interregional Department for Criminal Sentencing of the Ministry of Justice, conducted 10 sanctioned searches at the places where the offenders were serving sentences and at the place of residence of their accomplices. Law enforcement officers seized mobile phones, bank cards, draft records.
The defendants are incriminated for the commission of criminal offenses provided for in Part 2, Part 3 of Art. 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years.
Investigative actions continue. Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out under the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
