Police reported suspicion of four more militants of the self-proclaimed “DPR”
Employees of the Department of Strategic Investigations, together with the investigating authorities of the police, continue measures to identify persons who are fighting on the side of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. In particular, the police managed to obtain evidence regarding four more militants.
All suspects have been part of the armed formations of the pseudo-republic since 2014 and after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine fought on the side of the Russian army. One of them is part of the 3rd OMSBR “Berkut” of the so-called “people's militia” of the self-proclaimed “DPR”. Three mercenaries were repeatedly convicted, including for murder.
The men performed combat missions in Donetsk region. After the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, the militants were based in the Kharkiv direction - in the Kupyan district. During the temporary occupation, they were on duty at checkpoints and followed other illegal instructions to prevent the Armed Forces from taking control of the territory.
After the de-occupation by Ukrainian defenders of the captured territories, the police found documentary evidence of the participation of mercenaries in armed aggression.
On the basis of the collected evidence, four militants of the self-proclaimed “DPR” investigators of the Investigative Department No. 2 of the Kupyansk District Department and the Investigative Department of the Regional Police reported in absentia about the suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 258-3 (Creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization) and part 2 of Art. 260 (Creation of paramilitary or armed formations not provided for by law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Prosecutors of the Kupyansk district and Kharkiv regional prosecutor's offices are preparing materials on the announcement of the suspects in the search.
Under Ukrainian law, they can face up to 15 years in prison.
