“White Angel” united hearts: police officers got married in Donetsk region, rescuing people in combat zone
In embroidered uniform, berets and to the sounds of explosions — this was the wedding of the “white angels” Valeria and Dmitry, which took place in Lyman. Lovers exchanged vows, standing on the native land freed from the occupier. Their family is unusual, because first of all they are partners and together they risk their lives to help the wounded, to deliver humanitarian aid to the front line.
Dmitry Bilenets and Valeria Chernikova met three years ago during the disclosure of a serious crime, robbery attack. He is the commissioner of criminal investigation, she is an assistant investigator, both serious and taciturn - that's how they found each other.
The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine has further rallied the police. “I asked Lera to go to a safe place, but she refused,” the groom confesses. The girl, behind whose shoulders sports achievements in powerlifting, is not used to succumbing to the trials of fate. Instead, the young couple took paramedic courses and began evacuating the wounded from the Estuary of Donetsk region.
Those in love with the latter remained in the city, which was mercilessly stormed by Russian troops. Dozens of people owe their lives to Dmitry and Valeria. After the deoccupation of the Estuary, they were among the first to return to their hometown and participated in stabilization activities. Later, volunteers joined the unit “White Angel”.
The partners spent 24 hours in an armored car, two of them daily loaded three tons of humanitarian aid, repeatedly came under fire and even came under the hunt of enemy drones. He covered her, and she covered him.
Valeria and Dmitry's dream of a wedding in their hometown was helped by the leadership of the Donetsk police. Despite the Russian attacks, the holiday was organized. There was both a traditional loaf and a bride's bouquet.
“Today, in this turbulent time, just near the front line, a new Ukrainian family is born before our eyes, and this proves that we are invincible. It is symbolic that we hold the ceremony of joining two loving hearts on the liberated land — the native land of our brides,” said the head of the regional police Ruslan Osipenko.
The head of the Donetsk region police noted that since the beginning of the Russian invasion, this is the third police family to marry in the conditions of hostilities. For the first time such a ceremony was held in the besieged Mariupol, in a bomb shelter.
