Threatened to kill a pregnant woman and demanded money from a soldier: police in Zhytomyr region exposed a group of racketeers
Two “criminal authorities” in the Zhytomyr region organized criminal activities and involved persons with criminal experience in the “work”. By force and threats of physical violence, the members of the group forced the inhabitants of the region to pay them money.
To intimidate the victims, they even arranged several so-called “torture houses” in Korostyshiv, in which they “worked” with them.
In particular, racketeers demanded 190 thousand hryvnias from a soldier. And in case of refusal to pay the money to the attackers, they threatened to cripple and then kill the pregnant wife of the soldier.
Law enforcement officers conducted a special operation and during the transfer of the next “tranche” to the attackers, detained 8 people - leaders and active participants of the organized criminal group.
In addition, more than 100 thousand hryvnias, almost 6000 euros, weapons, drugs, mobile phones, bank cards, “rough” records and other items relevant to the pre-trial investigation were seized from the places of residence and cars of the defendants.
Eight participants have now reported suspicions. Depending on the role and participation in criminal activity, the actions of suspects are qualified according to the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 4 of Art. 189 (a claim that caused property damage of a particularly large size, committed by an organized group in conditions of martial law, combined with the infliction of grievous bodily harm),
- Part 1 tbsp. 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives),
- Part 1 tbsp. 309 (Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation or shipment of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues without the purpose of marketing),
Part 3 of Art. 342 (Resistance to a representative of the authorities, an employee of a law enforcement agency, a state executor, a private executor, a member of a public formation for the protection of public order and the state border or a serviceman, an authorized person of the Deposit Guarantee Fund of Individuals).
Currently, the issue of choosing preventive measures is being decided. The collection of evidence base for bringing other members of the group to account is ongoing.
