In Lyon, France, Ukraine and the European Union signed the Agreement on Cargo Transportation by Road. It eliminates the need for Ukrainian carriers to obtain appropriate permits for bilateral and transit transportation to EU states and avoids stopping the export of Ukrainian products through road checkpoints, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine reported.

The agreement provides for measures to simplify the recognition of driver's documents. From now on, Ukraine and the EU exempt holders of driver's licenses issued by one of the parties from the requirement to have an international driver's license.

The term of the agreement is 1 year with the possibility of extension, and temporarily enters into force from June 29. On an ongoing basis, the Agreement will become operational upon completion of all ratification procedures.

In the face of a full-scale war and blockade of Ukrainian ports, the volume of exports by road transport and, as a result, the need for permits for international transportation in some directions increased several times.

In the first month of the full-scale invasion, agreements were reached on the temporary cancellation of freight transport permits with 12 EU countries (Austria, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Romania, Greece and Slovakia).
