Ustym, a 26-year-old from Lviv, is a mobilized soldier of one of the units of the National Guard. Ustim holds a master's degree in physics and thanks to his work, Lviv University has a patent for a method of growing zinc oxide.

“This method is used in the manufacture of, for example, diode bulbs (thin films, nanostructures are used for them), gas sensors, fire safety sensors,” says the guard.

One of Ustim's works is sensors for explosive substances. “We made gas sensors based on nanostructured zinc oxide when we investigated its properties. We tried to make sensors on homemade explosive devices, for the manufacture of which concentrated hydrogen peroxide, ethyl alcohol, ammonia and acetone are used.”

After completing his military service, the man studied in graduate school for 2 years - before the beginning of a full-scale war.

“When the full-scale invasion began, I was mobilized to the part where I had previously served and already on February 26 I was part of one of the units where I was performing various security tasks,” the guard recalls.

Today, Ustym uses the skills of his hobby and is a military cook. He says that now the maximum efforts of everyone to defend and protect the state are the most important. And after our victory over the Russian invaders, he plans to graduate and get a doctorate degree.
