Entrepreneur caused losses of more than UAH 6.7 million: Precarpathian police exposed scam with apartments for servicemen
20 apartments, which were to be owned by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, were re-registered by the Kolomyia entrepreneur as a legal entity and resold.
The criminal activity of the suspected investigator of the Precarpathian police department together with the employees of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Ivano-Frankivsk region documented the criminal activity.
The procedural guidance in the case is carried out by the Ivano-Frankivsk Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Field of Defense of the Western Region.
Investigators found that at the end of 2021, a 66-year-old developer, a resident of Kolomyia, concluded two contracts with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. According to the documents, the department bought from the entrepreneur 30 apartments for servicemen in a house built in Kolomyya. The Ministry of Defense paid more than 6.7 million hryvnias for the accommodation.
The entrepreneur undertook to put the new building into operation by April 15, 2022, as well as to register ownership of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. However, the entrepreneur was in no hurry to fulfill these obligations. Shortly, the defendant concluded additional agreements with the Ministry of Defense to postpone the registration of ownership of housing to the department until October 27, 2022. And at the end of July 2022, acting for selfish motives and for the purpose of his own enrichment, he registered 20 apartments for his own firm. In the future, he resold them to individuals, concluding notarized sales contracts. As a result of such illegal actions, the developer caused damage to the Ministry of Defense in the amount of 6,717,324 hryvnias.
The attacker has already been notified by investigators of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 4 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. We are talking about fraud committed on a particularly large scale. The developer faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The apartments were arrested by court decision.
The question of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is currently being decided.
