Suspects in the shooting of policemen in Vinnytsia region intended to flee abroad (Video)
All police forces and units were involved before the crime was solved and the attackers were located. As a result of a complex and successful police operation, the attackers were detained. They hid in an abandoned building on the territory of the Odessa region and intended to leave abroad of Ukraine.
Detainees say that the motive for the attack on the police was that they were carrying grenades. However, whether this is the case, the investigation establishes. Also, together with the employees of the Security Service of Ukraine, their involvement in the activities of sabotage and intelligence groups is checked.
Recall, on April 20, in Gaisynsky district of Vinnytsia region, attackers opened fire on police officers who stopped their car for inspection. A 20-year-old policeman died at the scene. Defending his partner, he managed to shoot and wound the elder of them. A second police officer was wounded and hospitalized.
During the operational-search activities, the police searched the car of the intruders. Traces of blood were recorded in the car, indicating that one of the attackers was wounded. Also, the police seized the blood-stained clothes, shoes of the defendants, documents and other physical evidence.
The investigation is carried out within the framework of open criminal proceedings: under Art. 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — Murder or attempted murder of a law enforcement officer in connection with the performance of official duties by this employee and Part 1 of Art. 263 — Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives. The procedural guidance in the pre-trial investigation is carried out by the Vinnytsia specialized prosecutor's office in the field of defense of the Southern Region.
The issue of notifying detainees of suspicion and choosing preventive measures is resolved. The sanction of the article provides for a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
