During the temporary occupation by Russian invaders of the city of Volchansk, a member of the terrorist organization, together with the Russian military in the premises of a local aggregate plant, equipped a “prison”, where more than 500 civilians were illegally held and subjected to violence.

The police established that the 36-year-old defendant, who was a member of the terrorist organization “LNR”, together with other military units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation after a full-scale invasion into the territory of Ukraine and the occupation of part of Kharkiv region, seized the premises of the “Volchansky Aggregation Plant”, which was turned into a “prison”.

Patriotic civilians who refused to cooperate with the occupiers were brought here from the surrounding settlements.

According to eyewitnesses, in the largest of the deoccupied territories, the torturers suffered physical and psychological abuse and mutilation of more than 500 people.

Among the prisoners of the Russian invaders were elderly people. People were held here for several months, some of the prisoners were illegally held for more than half a year. On the walls, tortured prisoners marked the days, weeks and months of captivity.

From the prisoners they “knocked out” information about citizens who opposed the Russian invaders. Defenceless people were mercilessly tortured: they applied current, which was fed through wires tied to different parts of the body, beat with rubber sticks, pulled out nails.

Among those affected by the atrocities of Russian war criminals were seven Sri Lankan citizens who, before the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, studied at a medical college in Kupyansk. Escaping from the occupation, in March 2022 they went to Kharkov, but on the way they were detained by the Russian military. The occupiers took the foreigners to the unit plant in Volchansk, placed them in cells and held for 4 months.

Foreigners, like other prisoners, were subjected to physical and psychological abuse.

On the basis of the collected evidence, a citizen of Russia was notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 28, Part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (cruel treatment of civilians committed by a previous conspiracy by a group of persons).

For committing this crime, the suspect faces punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 12 years.
