Under the pretext “You are flooding me”, Kiev residents robbed apartments: the capital's operatives detained the intruder
The figure presented himself as a neighbor from below and under the legend of the flooding of the apartment, he entered the pensioners in the apartment. After, when the attacker found out where in the old savings, he stole them.
As part of the implementation of operational information, employees of the Criminal Investigation Department, employees of the Criminal Police Department of the Svyatoshyn Police Department, together with the analysts of the capital's head, detained the man on suspicion of committing apartment thefts. The victims were mostly elderly people from 60 to 87 years old. A 44-year-old native of Donetsk region was detained under the order of Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. It turned out that the attacker is under investigation for committing similar crimes in the city of Odessa.
Law enforcement officers established that the defendant got into the apartments of elderly people under the pretext “I am a neighbor from below, you are flooding me.” When pensioners let the intruder into the dwelling, the latter pretended to be a plumbing specialist and asked for money for new pipes, promising to replace them. After the “neighbor” tracked the place where the savings were stored, and when the owners were distracted, he stole them.
So, on June 23 of this year, on the street of Alexander Makhov, the defendant stole from the apartment of a 75-year-old Kiev woman a thousand US dollars and 40 thousand hryvnias. The attacker was detained by the operatives when he returned to his car with the stolen money. The national and foreign currency were seized as material evidence, and the Mazerati car was seized as an instrument of committing a crime.
At the moment, the investigation has every reason to believe that the detainee is involved in the commission of four more similar crimes on the territory of the Svyatoshinsky district. Also, law enforcement officers conduct a check for involvement in apartment thefts in other areas of the capital.
The investigators, in agreement with the Svyatoshyn District Prosecutor's Office, informed the defendant about the suspicion of committing the crime provided for in Part 4 of Art. 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - theft committed under the conditions of martial law. Investigators petitioned the court to keep the attacker in custody for the duration of the pre-trial investigation. The sanction of the article provides for between five and eight years in prison.
