During the emergency evacuation from Bakhmut, police rescued four people
Civilians hid in the basement in the zone of active fighting and were on the verge of exhaustion - they ran out of food. The police, together with the military, the State Emergency Service and the Donetsk OVA, developed and carried out a complex operation to rescue them. Risking their lives, the evacuation crews took people out from under the fire of the Russian occupiers, unfortunately, not without losses. The Donetsk police chief called on residents of Donetsk region to evacuate before they have to pay the highest price for it.
Law enforcement officials received information that in Bakhmut a group of local residents in the number of about 20 people needed to be evacuated. The building where they took shelter is located as close as possible to the front line. To liberate people, it took a lot of effort and resources.
To carry out the rescue operation, the leadership of the police, the State Emergency Service, the regional military administration, the Armed Forces of Ukraine were united. Evacuation teams were formed, which included police officers of the White Angel unit, paramedics and special agents who provided cover. The escort was carried out by patrol police.
The road is extremely dangerous, everything works in this area — artillery, RSPs, mortars, drones. Therefore, night time was chosen to evacuate people with the least risk, and the route was worked out together with the Armed Forces.
Citizens were picked up by the military in special vehicles and handed them over to the police at the agreed location. People were taken out of the line of battle in separate groups. Only five people who were in hiding at that time were able to evacuate, the location of the others is unknown.
On the way, the enemy covered the crews with fire. An elderly woman was killed in front of her son, the rest of the people were not injured.
Four men who lived in this shelter for at least a month were brought to a safe place. Their families were evacuated earlier. Almost everyone has their housing destroyed. People ate from supplies and lost body weight. Currently, the military administration is providing them with all the assistance they need. As for the dead woman - a location will be determined where the son will be able to bury her.
The evacuees were placed in a shelterhouse, fed, they are waiting for a full medical examination and psychological assistance.
