The first minutes after the arrival and the consequences of the missile hit: the story of a policeman from Chernihiv, who was in the epicenter of the strike
“The police of Chernihiv region ensured the protection of public order in a strengthened regime. 8 minutes after the air alarm began, police officers began to call people loudly by commands to go down to the underground storage, because there is a high-quality underground storage. All those who went down to the shelter, and there were about 100 such people, all remained unharmed,” the head of the department of preventive activities of the GUNP in the Chernihiv region, Lieutenant Colonel Andriy Zeliak, said on the air of the all-Ukrainian television marathon “Yenyi Novosti”.
He also said that everyone else who did not want to go down, they went to other places - the park and got in the car. Therefore, when the rocket arrived, the police found many wounded.
“At this time I was walking down the street to the drama theater. I called the guys. The guys said that everyone is going down, they are evacuating people. Then when I went to the store, I heard an explosion and I was also cut by the glass from the shock wave,” the officer says.
He was wounded by broken glass, but continued to perform his task, as did the rest of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“First, we took the wounded to hospitals, and then began evacuation measures. A lot of police officers and employees of the State Emergency Service were involved in the elimination of consequences,” says Andriy Zeliak.
In addition, the police continue to document this type of crime and are engaged in bypassing all private homes, individual entrepreneurs who had their business in the area.
“We document all damaged property, go into each apartment, take applications. Many cars were also damaged. Now we are engaged in the reception of citizens and, accordingly, we accept statements from those affected by yesterday's shelling,” the police lieutenant colonel said.
Recall that as of the morning, August 20, the police continue investigative actions at the site of the Russian missile strike in Chernihiv. The maximum number of personnel is oriented to help citizens. As a result of the enemy attack, 7 people were killed, the number of wounded increased to 148.
