Elderly people were searched according to the scheme “your relative is in trouble” for 700 thousand UAH — Kharkiv police sent the case to court against the participants of the OZG
The accused could face up to 12 years in prison.
According to the investigation, the defendants called mainly elderly people and reported that their loved ones had gone to the hospital, so money for treatment was urgently needed. This activity was organized by a resident of the Mariupol correctional facility. Involved persons who are also in the detention center and previously convicted persons in criminal activities. The latter organized the process of transferring cash to couriers and personally received money from the victims.
In February 2022, the activities of intruders were stopped by the operatives of the Strategic Investigation Department in the Kharkiv region and the investigators of the Investigative Department of the Regional Police. Then the police detained the two defendants. They just received from a 90-year-old woman for the “treatment” of a relative more than 1000 US dollars and 64 000 hryvnias
In general, during the investigation, the operatives and investigators established the involvement of the attackers in the commission of 6 facts of seizure of funds in the amount of almost 700 thousand UAH.
Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is completed. The indictment against the participants of the interregional organized criminal group, in agreement with the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, was sent to the court. They are accused of committing the crime provided for in Part 4 of Art. 190 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
