During the occupation, Russian military personnel were located on the territory of the experimental observatory in the Chuguev district. They damaged equipment and destroyed buildings. Law enforcers seized physical evidence indicating military aggression of the occupiers.

According to Olga Naumenko, Deputy Head of the Investigative Department of Chuguev Regional Police Department, the building of the institution is completely destroyed and is most likely no longer subject to restoration. It should be noted that this is the largest radio telescope not only in Ukraine, but also in the whole of Europe. The territory occupies more than 100 hectares. The actions of the occupiers caused extensive damage.

“Investigators together with criminalists under the procedural leadership of the Chuguev District Prosecutor's Office of Kharkiv region conducted inspections of the places of events. We recorded the consequences of the destruction and collected evidence of the presence of the Russian military on the territory of the institution,” said Olga Naumenko.

The occupiers were on the territory of the station for several months, before the deoccupation of the settlement. They dug trenches and left behind a lot of ammunition and remnants of them.

The information is included in the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Part 1 of Art. 438 (violation of the laws and customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
