Occupation of Irpen: law enforcement officers interviewed about 1.5 thousand victims and witnesses to collect evidence of war crimes of Russians
The city of Irpin in Kyiv region was under enemy occupation for more than three weeks. It was only after the establishment of control over the city that the demining of the area began. This allowed the initiation of investigative actions to record the crimes committed by the Russian troops.
An interdepartmental investigation team was established to properly collect evidence and investigate war crimes. It consists of investigators of the National Police of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation.
The police carried out exhumation of the dead as a result of armed aggression, 269 bodies were sent for forensic examination.
Law enforcement officers conducted more than 7000 inspections of damaged and destroyed objects of housing stock and civil infrastructure, as well as 451 inspection of the scene to establish the circumstances of the commission of criminal offenses. At this time, 987 victims and 510 witnesses and eyewitnesses of the events that took place during the occupation were questioned.
As part of the investigation, 463 forensic examinations were appointed. Using MAXAR technology, the analysis of photographs of occupied Irpen from space is carried out. Information from witnesses and victims, materials from open sources and CCTV cameras, other information important for the investigation is expanded and compared.
All this work is carried out to bring to justice the servicemen of the occupation forces. However, no less important is the detection and documentation of such offenses as cooperation activities, looting, adjusting enemy shelling, etc. So the focus is also on local residents who collaborated with the occupiers.
