The officer of the educational environment will provide the full range of safety in the educational institution, - Igor Klymenko
Now the Ministry of Internal Affairs has focused on launching a project of educational environment officers — police officers who will take care of the safety of children in educational institutions. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko in his report at the meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine, held in Lviv.
“A specially trained person who has undergone careful selection, medical and psychological examination and specialized training should be responsible for the safety of children. Why does it have to be a police officer? Because the police officer has a broader functionality — both for checking persons and for applying all police coercive measures,” the Minister stressed.
In addition, he noted, special frames and metal detectors should be installed in each educational institution. And first of all, it is necessary to start with educational institutions that work in full-time mode, in settlements close to the line of contact, and the Russian and Belarusian borders.
“We are already selecting the first 500 educational environment officers from among the current police officers in order to start the practical phase as soon as possible. The recruitment campaign will start at the beginning of next year,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
Igor Klymenko also noted that the training program for officers of the educational environment has already been developed. The training will continue according to the 4+2 formula: 4 months of training and 2 months of practical training.
Candidates who will be selected will receive equipment and body cameras from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Videos from these chest cameras will be stored on police servers.
The Minister also noted that in parallel, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs monitor the state of shelters for participants in the educational process.
“The State Emergency Service, the National Police, together with local authorities and self-government bodies, inspect the objects of protection on a quarterly basis, provide methodological and practical assistance in order to eliminate any shortcomings,” Igor Klymenko stressed.
