223 participants from all regions of Ukraine took part in the National Selection — military and veterans who were wounded while performing combat tasks in defense of the Motherland. Athletes competed in 9 disciplines — archery, track and field, cycling, powerlifting, indoor rowing, sitting volleyball, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball.

Colonel Oleksandr Piskun from Kryvyi Rih spoke on the second day of the National Selection in two disciplines — table tennis and archery in the “advanced” category. According to the results of the competition, Colonel Piskun won “gold” in table tennis and “bronze” in archery.

The officer received a serious injury in 2014 during the liberation of the village of Lisichansk, in the Luhansk region. After undergoing long-term treatment and rehabilitation, he tried his hand at the Invictus Games National Selection - in previous years he competed in swimming and core pushing.

The Invictus Games were launched by Prince Harry in 2014. For the first time, the Games took place in London. Ukraine joined the Games of the Unconquered in 2017, debuting in Toronto.

This year, the national team of Ukraine will be represented by 24 participants from among servicemen and veterans. Over the course of three months, the athletes will undergo intensive training and perform in international competitions, which will be held from September 9 to 16 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Each soldier has a unique story and with his example inspires others and shows that the impossible is possible. The whole world sees that no trauma can break the strong spirit of Ukrainians.
