Promised “employment” abroad, a decent salary, and then sold into sexual slavery: the organizer of illegal business was detained
The police detained the organizer of the international trafficking channel.The defendant promised young women official employment and decent wages.
Law enforcement officers found that 36-year-old Lviv woman found women looking for work through the Internet. After that, she promised them help with employment abroad and a decent salary.
However, after crossing the border, women fell into sexual slavery.
Police and border guards detained the intruder while trying to transport another woman across the state border. Subsequently, they conducted searches at the place of residence of the defendant, seized computer equipment, the phone from which correspondence with women and draft records were kept.
The woman was informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 149 (Trafficking in Persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to twelve years with confiscation of property.
The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of house arrest.
