“Our strength and faith in our own forces are the key levers of our victory”, — guard from Sumy region about fierce fighting in Luhansk region
Gvardiets Denis is a fighter of the patrol unit of the unit. He is convinced: when you are a military man, and a war begins in the country, you take up arms and the words of the military oath “never to betray the Ukrainian people” come to the fore. And especially when you are part of the defense forces in the Luhansk region and hold the eastern borders of the country.
“This was my first rotation to Luhansk region, where in the area of the Joint Forces operation, we carried out tasks on platoon strongholds. The morning of February 24 — rising to the sound of explosions. Already at 5 in the morning we heard the work of, apparently, enemy mortars at the position. And in just a few hours the command gave in: we occupy the more favorable borders of defense, a full-scale invasion began,” Denys recalls.
And in a few days the unit was relocated to Rubezhny. The enemy was actively advancing, destroying everything in its path. In order to meet him with dignity and give a decisive answer, the fighters had to prepare.
“We took up defense at the crossroads and immediately started digging. The density and intensity of enemy fire encouraged this. We understood: the better we equip our positions, the more confident our defense will be. For ten days we held the border, and then the occupiers began an active offensive. First, reconnaissance from the air (we saw an enemy drone), for a few minutes - and we began to actively cover our positions with mortars,” says the guard.
This powerful attack by the enemy proved too serious. Actually, during it the guard received serious injuries.
“They probably got too close to us. When the mortar shelling ended, the “shooting spree” began. Literally in a moment - and I felt one bullet pierce my shoulder on the takeoff, the other also hit lower in the hand on the takeoff. I managed to find a kind of trench, climbed there, waited a little. Then I realized: you can not waste time, I took out a tourniquet - and applied it. Thank you to my guys — in half an hour they reached me under shelling and took them away.”
Denis was quickly evacuated from the battlefield. After several hospitals in Luhansk and Donetsk region, the guard went through several more medical institutions. Now and still continues to rebuild in his native Sumy region. He says doctors are giving encouraging predictions. For his courage and courage, the fighter received a high state award — the Medal “For Military Service to Ukraine”.
“They, these poor people, must answer for all their crimes. It is difficult to fight with those who do not have any values and moral laws. I've seen them destroy everything, razing high-rise buildings to the ground, ordinary houses where people live. They turn everything into ruin. All this anger, this hatred of them, we must transfer to the battlefield. And the fact that our victory is inevitable is obvious to me. After all, slaves cannot defeat a nation of free, strong and independent men.”
