Drugs, counterfeit goods and evaders: the situation at the border
Border guards daily detect offenders trying to illegally flee the country or carry contraband or even drugs.
So, the other day, the operational staff of the Chernivtsi border patrol received information about illegal trade in excisable goods in settlements near the border with Romania.
As part of the criminal proceedings, border guards together with representatives of the Bureau of Economic Security conducted checks and exposed illegal activities of local residents. Also, law enforcement officers conducted searches at three addresses of defendants in the criminal case.
As a result of the searches, more than 700 liters of alcohol and vodka products with counterfeit excise stamps and about 5 thousand packs of cigarettes without excise tax stamps were found.
Detected goods totaling more than 450 thousand hryvnias were seized by representatives of the Bureau of Economic Security.
The defendants face criminal liability provided for by Articles 199 and 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Otherwise, the border guards of the Chernivtsi detachment found marijuana in a citizen of Ukraine.
A truck driven by our compatriot of 1976 arrived at the Porubne checkpoint on the way out of Ukraine.
During the inspection of the car, the service dog of the border guards worked on the backpack that was in the driver's cabin.
During a closer inspection, border guards discovered a plastic bag hidden in a sock. Inside the package was a paper bundle with a gray-green substance of plant origin, previously marijuana. The driver along with the drug was handed over to representatives of the SBU.
But in Transcarpathia, the border guards of the Mukachevo detachment with the help of a quadrocopter detected an attempt to illegally cross the border.
Two Transcarpathians, a 30-year-old resident of Vinogradov and a 35-year-old resident of Solotvino, planned to sail across the Tisa River to neighboring Romania.
The illegal intentions of the men were exposed by the border outfit of the Tyachiv department, which tracked the area adjacent to the border with the help of a drone.
The information was immediately provided to the response team, which came forward to detain the intruders. By the time of the termination of the offense, the desperate tried twice to plunge into the fast-flowing Tysu, but the instinct of self-preservation prevailed.
The men tried to escape from the border patrol, but the soldiers fired warning shots, prompting the fugitives to change their plans and stop.
One of the offenders was dressed in a wetsuit. Both had mobile phones and $500 worth of cash wrapped in plastic with them. According to the Transcarpathians, the documents were taken from them by “assistants”, who promised them an unimpeded crossing of the Ukrainian-Romanian border for 4 thousand dollars from one and 8.5 thousand from the other.
In relation to the detainees, protocols were drawn up on administrative offenses, provided for in Art. 204-1 KUPap “Illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine” and 185-10 KUPA “Malicious disobedience to a lawful order or requirement of a serviceman or employee of the State Border Service of Ukraine or a member of a public formation for the protection of public order and the state border”.
