The National Police eliminated a network of fraudulent call centers
The attackers rented several premises in Kiev, Lviv and Odessa, where more than 140 people worked. They were represented by employees of banking institutions or law enforcement agencies. The sphere of their “activity” spread to the territory of the post-Soviet countries.
As established by law enforcement officers, the offices of call centers were located in Kiev, Lviv and Odessa. Its employees — more than 140 people, posing as employees of banking institutions or law enforcement agencies, under various pretexts forced citizens to disclose personal data and passwords. To do this, they used psychological methods of influence and acted according to prepared instructions. Also, the attackers used a phone number replacement program to disguise their activities. Client databases were bought by attackers from DarkNet.
According to preliminary information, the funds received in this way were transferred to electronic wallets, cards of controlled persons, and also transferred to cryptocurrency.
On February 4, law enforcement officers conducted a police special operation involving more than 100 employees of the Departments of Strategic Investigations, Cyberpolice, Criminal Investigation of the National Police, the Office of the Prosecutor General and special officers of the Kiev police. Currently, authorized searches are carried out on the territory of Kiev, Lviv and Odessa.
The police stopped the activities of the network of call centers and are carrying out further measures to establish the organizers and participants of criminal activity, the full circle of victims and the amount of damage caused.
