National police detained military registration officers in three areas — all of them took bribes from military conscripts
Detentions took place in Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk and Chernivtsi regions. The amounts of illegal benefits received by the defendants ranged from 9,000 hryvnias to 1500 US dollars.
Employees of the Department of Strategic Investigations, together with the investigative units of the National Police of Ukraine, carry out systematic and comprehensive measures to detect and stop corruption schemes, in the organization of which employees of territorial recruitment and social support centers are involved. For a cash reward, they help men of conscription age avoid being drafted or get a deferment from the draft.
The police uncovered several facts of extortion of illegal benefits by officials of military registration offices in Dnipropetrovsk, Chernivtsi and Volyn regions.
In Volyn, the deputy head of one of the district military registration commissions demanded $1,000 from the conscript. Operational officers of the USSR together with investigators and under the procedural guidance of the Volyn Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the military and defense sphere of the Western region detained the defendant while receiving part of the funds - UAH 25 thousand.
And the operatives of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the Dnipropetrovsk region detained an official of one of the district military registration commissions. He received 1000 US dollars and 12 thousand UAH for promising to “delay the time” of the prize for as long as possible.
Operatives of the USSR in the Chernivtsi region have exposed two servicemen of one of the regional mobilization departments to systematically extort bribes for preparing fictitious documents for servicemen about unsuitability for military service. The defendant was detained during the next tranche of ill-gotten gains - 9,000 UAH. It should be noted that only last month law enforcement officers detained one of the commanders of the same staffing center on a bribe of $3,000 for removing the evader from the military record for health reasons.
All detainees were informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and selected preventive measures. An employee of the military enlistment office from Dnipropetrovsk region is detained with the right to deposit 215 thousand hryvnias, from Volyn - night house arrest, and Bukovyna defendants - detention with the right to deposit more than 536 thousand UAH each.
For the acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an illegal benefit by an official, punishment is provided in the form of imprisonment for a period of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years, with confiscation of property.
