The National Police, together with the FBI, dismantled a network of cryptocurrency laundering
Web resources offered users anonymous cryptocurrency exchange. Such services were provided to facilitate the legalization and laundering of illegally obtained money.
Employees of the Cyber Police Department, together with the Main Investigation Department of the National Police, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and in cooperation with the FBI of the United States of America, conducted a multi-level international operation to eliminate nine virtual asset exchange services.
The services provided an opportunity for cybercriminals to legalize assets obtained as “ransom” from attacks by cryptographic viruses. They liquidated the network in the course of an international police operation. Through exchanges, the attackers carried the assets obtained as a result of attacks by malware (cryptographic viruses) and online fraud. Advertising of exchange services was carried out on closed hacker forums.
As a result of the operation, law enforcement officers blocked the network infrastructure, which was located on servers in the United States of America, European countries and Ukraine. Domain names have been removed.
