National Guardsman Oleksandr Orlov, who died in the fighting for Kharkiv, was awarded the title “Hero of Ukraine” (VIDEO)
On the website of the President of Ukraine there was a Decree on awarding the highest state award — the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order “Golden Star” (posthumously) to the commander of the group of special purpose unit “Omega” of the NGU Oleksandr Orlov.
The hero died in the second week of a full-scale invasion, when he repelled a unit of the Russian GRU on the Kharkiv district assault. The enemy attack was then stifled, the Russians were unable to establish themselves in the residential areas of North Saltovka, instead we lost one of the most experienced and best trained servicemen.
Alexander was born in Donetsk, Ukraine. After completing his studies, he worked at the mine “Trudivskaya” in his hometown. Subsequently, he decided to link his life with the army. In 2013 he graduated from the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine in Kharkiv. He stayed there to live and work. In his free time he was engaged in sports.
Alexander fought for Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war. He served in the ranks of a separate special purpose detachment “Omega” of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was repeatedly awarded the Medal “For Military Service to Ukraine” in 2017 and the Order “For Courage” of the 3rd degree in 2018.
From the first days of the full-scale war, Alexander served in the defense of Kharkiv region as part of his native unit of the NGU. He was the commander of a sniper group.
The Hero was buried in the village of Katerynivka, Kharkiv region.
Alexander had a wife and son.
