In Zhytomyr region, investigators reported on suspicion of a man in an attempt to murder a patrolman
The incident occurred on the night of February 13 in the Korosten district. A 48-year-old drunk driver, whose car was stopped by patrol police for violation of traffic rules, behaved aggressively, damaged an official transport, tried to escape and hit a law enforcement officer. The man was detained and is currently in custody. For his actions, he faces imprisonment for a term of 9 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
Around 1:00am on February 13, police officers of the Regional Patrol Police Department on the section of the highway Kyiv — Kovel in the Korosten district for violation of traffic rules stopped the Volkswagen Transporter car. At the wheel was a 48-year-old resident of the city. Novograd-Volynsky. During communication, the police noticed obvious external signs of alcohol intoxication in the man. Therefore, he was offered to undergo an appropriate examination.
However, the driver behaved aggressively, locked himself inside the car, and then suddenly moved and left the scene, damaging the police service car.
The patrolmen notified their colleagues from other on-duty outfits who were working nearby about the incident and began a pursuit of the fugitive. When one of the policemen, getting out of the car, tried to approach the fleeing driver, he abruptly moved in the direction of the law enforcement officer. Fortunately, the patrolman managed to bounce off the side. The aggressive driver was stopped and the investigative and operational team of the Korosten Regional Directorate of the GUNP was called to the scene to document all the circumstances.
The 48-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was detained by the police in accordance with Art. 208 (Detention by an authorized official) of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. A pre-trial investigation is ongoing under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — Art. 348 (Invasion of the life of a law enforcement officer...), Art. 342 (Resistance to a representative of the authorities, an employee of a law enforcement agency...), Art. 347 (Intentional destruction or damage to property of an employee of a law enforcement agency...) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The man has already been announced on suspicion of the attempted murder of a patrol police officer. The necessary investigative actions continue and the issue of a precautionary measure for the suspect is being resolved.
According to the current legislation, for a set of illegal acts, the helmsman may be threatened with imprisonment for a term of 9 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
