Pyrotechnics seized explosive objects from World War II in Zaporizhzhia
Mine and search works in the controlled part of the Zaporizhzhya region are carried out daily. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, pyrotechnics of the Zaporizhzhya region have destroyed 3,291 units of explosive objects that posed a deadly threat to civilians. Since 2023, 373 explosive devices have been destroyed.
Due to the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant, the water level in the Dnieper River fell and another danger arose — the ammunition that was on the bottom. After all, since the end of the Second World War, many explosive objects have remained in the Dnieper River.
Thus, on June 25, sappers seized an 82 mm mortar mine, an aerial bomb, a grenade and 5 detonators from previous wars on the banks of the Dnieper.
On the same day, fire technicians of the State Emergency Service seized another World War II aerial bomb, which was discovered by local residents in one of the settlements of Zaporizhzhya district.
All explosive objects were destroyed by appropriately trained pyrotechnics in compliance with safety rules.
Operational response was carried out by specialists of the Department of Underwater Demining and Pyrotechnic Department of the Emergency and Rescue Squad of the Special Purpose Emergency Service of the Zaporizhzhya region consisting of 8 people and 2 units of special equipment.
Rescuers draw the attention of citizens to the correct algorithm of behavior when detecting explosive objects: do not approach the find, do not touch the hands or apply any mechanical action; notify the emergency services.
