A criminal scheme for importing cars under the guise of humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was exposed in Volyn
During an attempt to sell two cars for $13,000, the police detained two defendants. During the inspection of the scene, vehicles, money and bank cards were seized.
During the investigation, the officers of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in the Volyn region and the Investigative Department of the Regional Police established that local residents brought vehicles from the EU countries to the territory of Ukraine on preferential terms as humanitarian aid. According to the results of searches at the places of residence of the defendants and in the premises of a private enterprise that was engaged in the repair of vehicles, they found documentation on the import of cars to Ukraine. In the future, attackers sold cars at average market prices, placing ads on Internet platforms.
The defendants were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The issue of declaring suspicions to them under Part 3 of Article 201-2 (illegal use for the purpose of profit of humanitarian aid, charitable donations or free assistance) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is resolved.
Currently, law enforcement agencies are carrying out measures to identify persons involved in the scheme. Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings continues under the procedural leadership of the Volyn Regional Prosecutor's Office. Exposure activities were carried out jointly with the Department of Military Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine.
