In Sumy region, attackers will be tried for fraud under the guise of passenger transportation from the combat zone
Dealers offered citizens to purchase fake electronic bus tickets from areas where fighting is taking place. In this way, they appropriated about 600 thousand hryvnias.
The scheme was organized by three men while in the detention center, and two more acquaintances were involved in its implementation. On one of the Internet platforms, attackers published ads on the provision of passenger transportation services in Ukraine and abroad. They even offered flights from frontline regions.
Then they called customers, posing as dispatchers or drivers, and provided bills for payment of the “electronic ticket”.
After receiving the money, people were notified of a technical failure and asked to repeat the payment. In this way, the members of the group searched citizens for about 600 thousand hryvnias.
The fraudsters were exposed by the employees of the anti-cybercrime department in Sumy region together with the investigators of the regional police in March of this year.
Four defendants were informed of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 190 (Fraud), and to their accomplice — according to Part 3 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Law enforcement officers completed the pre-trial investigation and sent the indictments to the Zarechny District Court of the city of Sumy. Procedural leadership was carried out by prosecutors of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The perpetrators face from eight to twelve years in prison.
