In order to ensure reliable protection of state borders, border guards take a number of measures to timely detect and prevent attempts to commit offenses.

To this end, border guards in cooperation with officers of operational and search units carry out verification measures not only near the state border, but also in places of possible appearance of probable offenders and on the roads of the border.

It was thanks to such measures yesterday morning, August 25, that the border guards of the Uzhgorod department together with the operatives managed to identify a group of persons who were preparing to commit an offense.

Two Odessa residents and one resident of Cherkasy region met at the railway station of the regional center of Transcarpathia and developed an action plan on how to reach the border.

Interestingly, one of them, a 34-year-old Cherkasy, turned out to be an “experienced” offender. On his account, this was the third attempt to illegally cross the state border. Moreover, for making a previous attempt, he was released after administrative detention just a few hours ago.

During the verification measures, the other two Odessa residents first tried to convince law enforcement officers that they came to the border for tourist purposes, but later admitted that they actually intended to reach the EU countries in search of better living conditions. So the men decided to cross the border on the outskirts of the city of Uzhgorod, guided by the navigator of a mobile phone.

Detainees were taken to the border unit. In their actions, they see signs of an offense provided for in Part 2 of Art. 204-1 KUPAP “Illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine”. The decision on the case will be made by the court.

In total, 17 people were detained over the past day for attempting to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine — 2 of them tried to cross the border illegally at checkpoints, another 15 were detained outside the designated crossing points.

In addition, 4 men, citizens of Ukraine, were not allowed to leave the country, since border guards found signs of forgery of their documents, which give the right to cross the border to persons of conscription age. In the actions of men there are signs of offenses provided for by articles 336 and 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
