In Lviv region, law enforcement officers detained two German citizens on suspicion of human trafficking

Today, February 9, the operatives of the Lviv Border Detachment together with the employees of the Migration Police and Cyber Police of the Main Directorate of NP in Lviv Oblast under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 2 of Art. 149 Criminal Code of Ukraine stopped illegal recruitment and transfer of women to EU countries in order to engage them in sexual exploitation.

As a result of the measures, a joint interdepartmental group detained two German citizens suspected of recruiting five Ukrainian citizens — residents of Lviv region, to engage in prostitution. Foreigners planned to transfer women to one of the EU countries.

The defendant of the criminal proceedings and his accomplice were detained within the framework of Art. 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine and a suspicion of committing a criminal offense was declared. Violators face punishment in the form of imprisonment for a period of five to twelve years. In
addition, the organizer of illegal activities has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention, with the right to make a bail in the amount of almost 300 thousand UAH.

Currently, urgent investigative actions are underway to establish the circumstances of the offense and the injured persons.
