Operational officers of the Lviv Border Patrol, together with employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Customs Service, blocked the smuggling channel for the supply of heavy drugs to the capital region.

The pre-trial investigation established that a 63-year-old resident of Kyiv was involved in organizing the movement of cocaine across the state border. The channel operated for almost a year and had an extensive client network.

Quarterly, under the guise of visiting his daughter and grandchildren, the attacker crossed the border and went for “goods” to one of the countries of Western Europe. The man hid the purchased cocaine from border and customs control under the cover of his own car. Instead of an airbag for the passenger, the car was equipped with a stash for drugs.

The man sold the imported drug retail to an extensive network of drug-addicted customers. The latter bought cocaine from hand to hand and paid in cash. For one gram of illegal drug, buyers paid $150 each.

Law enforcement officers detained the organizer of the channel in accordance with Art. 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine during an attempt to import another batch of drugs from abroad at one of the checkpoints in Lviv region. Almost 1.5 kg of heavy drugs were seized from the cache, the cost of which on the “black market” can be more than 150 thousand US dollars.

At the moment, the attacker has been informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 305 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court chose a precautionary measure for him — detention without the right to make bail.

Investigative actions continue. Law enforcement officers establish all those involved in the organization and functioning of the smuggling channel.
