The second driving school for people with disabilities was opened in Kryvorizhia
On December 20, Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs opened the first driving school for people with disabilities in Kryvorizhya and the sixth on the territory of Ukraine. Kryvyi Rih became the first non-regional city to provide inclusive education.
Driving school for people with disabilities DonDUVS is a project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, implemented with the support of partners within the framework of the nationwide initiative of First Lady Elena Zelenska “Without Barriers”.
“At present, in the conditions of war, the problem of training and retraining of drivers from among people with disabilities is gaining momentum. We support the position of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and are ready to provide opportunities for quality education — all comfortable conditions for people with disabilities have been created. The educational process will be provided by highly qualified teachers and certified instructors. Practical training will be carried out on a car with adaptive manual control. We are grateful to the city authorities, who supported the project and helped to implement it,” said the rector of DonDUVS Serhiy Vitvitskyi at the opening of the educational barrier-free space.
Kryvyi Rih City Council allocated a subsidy for the needs of the DonDUVS driving school — funds in the amount of UAH 2,000,000 for the purchase of a specialized car, items, materials, equipment and inventory for arranging the classrooms of the driving school.
Thanks to the support of the city authorities for the driving school, they purchased a special passenger car “Skoda Octavia” with adaptive manual control, a stair crawler lift for people with disabilities “OSD D5000010 Jolly Standart”, as well as equipped the inclusive class of the driving school with modern means for training and appropriate bathroom.
Training in a driving school can take place both for people who already have a driver's license, but under certain circumstances have passed into the category of people with disabilities, and those who get behind the wheel for the first time. The training period is 2.5 months, and the cost is 6000 hryvnias. For servicemen, employees of the NPU, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and persons with disabilities, there is a system of discounts.
