Irpin police department rebuilt after shelling opened in Kyiv region
It was this department that became a shelter for local residents during the Russian assault on the city in March 2022. The event was held today, May 2, with the participation of T.V.O. The head of the National Police of Ukraine Ivan Vyhivsky, the chief of police of the Kiev region Andriy Nebitov and the mayor of Irpin Oleksandr Markushin.
Interim Acting Head of the National Police Ivan Vyhivsky noted that the policemen of this unit held the defense and protected almost 100 residents of Irpen, who were in the shooting range of the police department: “During the stay of people here, the enemy repeatedly struck with heavy artillery, the building was damaged born. Thanks to the professional and operational actions of police, representatives of local authorities, military, volunteers, almost 95 percent of civilians were able to be removed from the shelling. Unfortunately, we also have losses. Police in Kyiv region lost five employees.”
In addition, the opening of the memorial park of the then deceased policeman Sergei Blyznyuk took place.
District police officer Captain Sergei Blyznyuk died in Irpen. Today, a square has been created on the territory of the restored subdivision, which is named after him. In the city of Bucha, police captain Yuri Chabakh was killed by an enemy sniper's bullet. The local authorities named one of the streets after him.
For a moment of silence, the participants honored the memory of all those killed as a result of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine.
By the decree of the President of Ukraine for courage and heroism, he was awarded the Order “For Courage” of the III degree of police captain Serhiy Blyznyuk (posthumously). The award and commemorative plaque were received by his wife Natalia Vasilyevna.

According to Ivan Vyhivsky, it is symbolic that the Irpin Police Department was one of the first to be destroyed and the first to be restored: “This is a reliable support and an indicator that the community is recovering, and we have to live on, despite the ongoing war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. To date, 112 police units have been completely destroyed in the state, 196 are damaged, and another 367 are in the temporarily occupied territories. But over time, together we will restore everything, reclaim the territories and ensure the presence of police throughout the territory of our state. I am grateful to every police officer for the fact that in a difficult moment you were determined, courageous and remained true to the Oath.”
The head of the police of the Kiev region Andrey Nevitov also expressed his gratitude to everyone who participated in the reconstruction of the administrative building: “When the community, local authorities, the state, the National Police work together, we have such a result. And he has to be everywhere. Therefore, we work further. And so it will be in all areas of our lives. Hold on, we will be united.”
During the event, police officers of Kiev region received departmental decorations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, National Police, as well as special ranks.
