On February 24, at the time of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Pavel, a guard of the Kryvyi Rih Brigade, was performing tasks in the area of the Joint Forces operation.

“The aircraft started working from day one — enemy planes were constantly flying over us,” the officer recalls.

The rotno-tactical group, in which Pavel was in the Joint Forces, repelled enemy attacks, preventing Russian troops from advancing deep into the country. The settlements of Donetsk region were under constant fire, and in a short time the homes of peaceful residents turned into ruins.

“We kept in touch with volunteers and delivered water, food and essentials to locals. People lived even among dilapidated houses, and they needed our help,” says Pavel.

From the first days, one of the hottest spots was Volnovakha, a city that remembers the bloody “Russian Empire” well since 2014. One of the tasks facing Paul and his detachment was to drive the Russian invaders out of the city. Early in the morning, when the sun had not yet risen, the officer, along with the fighters, took up positions almost close to the enemy. As a result of the fighting, the guards managed to stop the offensive and destroy the life force of the Russian troops.

On the same day, the enemy, having pulled up reserves and heavy armored vehicles, again tried to advance on the positions of the Krivoy Rog Guards. Repelling the attack, the military destroyed two BMP-2. Pavel himself, taking an advantageous position, aimed an RPG-7 hand grenade launcher at a truck with Russian personnel moving down the street, and destroyed it with one shot.

Many operations of Paul's department were carried out jointly with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During one of them, the Russian “Solntsepec” was destroyed.

Almost all the time, the city of Velyka Novosilka was also under the sights of the enemy “Grades” in Donetsk region. After another shelling, the Kryvyi Rih guards managed to help the two injured civilians and quickly deliver them to the hospital.

“Thanks to the efforts of the fighters, we were able to save dozens of lives, both local residents and military. We had to work under round-the-clock shelling, but we tried to ensure that everyone who needed help received it,” says Pavel. Today he continues to perform official duties already in his hometown.

For his personal courage and selfless actions in defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the Military Oath and to the Ukrainian people in difficult conditions of threat to life and health of the officer, he was awarded the Medal “For Military Service to Ukraine”.
