In Chernihiv region, police detained a group of persons who stole from the car of the owner of the store 10 kilograms of jewelry and about 3 million hryvnias
Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the police of the region, together with the policemen of the Chernihiv district department, detained three suspects in the theft of jewelry and funds from the car of Chernihiv.
A 69-year-old resident of Chernihiv, who is the owner of a jewelry store, turned to the police. The man reported that he carried in the trunk of his car jewelry with a total weight of about 10 kg and cash in different currencies totaling about 3 million UAH. Stopping near the supermarket, the man left the car in the parking lot. And when he returned in a few minutes, the money and jewelry from the car disappeared.
An investigative task force and officers of the police criminal unit immediately arrived at the scene. Investigators determined that three previously convicted men were involved in the crime.
During the operational measures, the police found out that the defendants used fake car numbers and changed their appearance with a wig. With the support of colleagues from Kiev and the Kiev region, the police established places where they began to sell jewelry.
The police of Chernihiv region with the strong support of the special unit KORD and the special purpose police company conducted a number of sanctioned searches in the places of sale of the stolen and in the homes of the suspects, where the stolen money and jewelry were seized.
Those involved in the theft were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The police placed the detainees in a temporary detention center.
Investigators under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office incriminate men for committing the crime provided for in Part 5 of Article 185 (theft committed on a particularly large scale or by an organized group) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Her sanction provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 7 to 12 years.
Currently, the police check criminals for involvement in the commission of similar crimes throughout Ukraine. A pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
